About Sonchus congestus Willd.
Sonchus congestus Willd. is a shrub that grows up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) tall. Its leaves grow in rosettes at the ends of stems; they are relatively smooth (subglabrous), and bear triangular to rounded lobes along their length. This species produces large flower heads, reaching 4–5 cm (1.6–2.0 in) across. Sonchus congestus is endemic to the Canary Islands. On Tenerife, it occurs in forested areas of Sierra Anaga and along the north coast, at elevations between 100 and 800 m (330–2,620 ft). It is also found in the central and northern regions of Gran Canaria.
