About Somula decora Macquart, 1847

Somula decora (Macquart, 1847), commonly called the spotted wood fly, is an uncommon species of syrphid fly found in central to eastern North America. Syrphid flies, also called hoverflies, can stay nearly motionless while in flight. Adult members of this species are also known as flower flies because they are commonly found on flowers, where they get energy-giving nectar and protein-rich pollen. The larvae of this species develop in decaying wood. This species is distributed across Canada and the United States.
