About Solidago tortifolia Elliott
Solidago tortifolia, commonly called twistleaf goldenrod, is a North American goldenrod species belonging to the Asteraceae family. It occurs in the eastern and southern United States, growing mostly along the Atlantic and Gulf coastal plain ranging from Maryland to Texas. This species is a perennial herb that can reach up to 130 cm (52 inches, or 4 and 1/3 feet) in height, and it grows from a woody underground caudex or from rhizomes. A single individual can produce up to 300 small yellow flower heads, arranged in a large branching cluster at the top of the plant. S. tortifolia grows in habitats including pine flatwoods, sand pine scrub, and multiple types of hardwood hammocks.
