About Soleichthys heterorhinos (Bleeker, 1856)

Blue edged sole, with the scientific name Soleichthys heterorhinos (Bleeker, 1856), is a species of sole that is native to the Eastern Indian Ocean and Western Pacific. This species occasionally enters the aquarium trade, and can grow up to 18 centimeters in length.

Soleichthys heterorhinos displays biofluorescence: when exposed to blue or ultraviolet light, it re-emits the light as red, and its appearance differs from how it looks under white light illumination. Biofluorescence in this species may help with intraspecific communication and camouflage.
