About Solanum villosum Mill.

Solanum villosum Mill. is an annual herb that grows up to 70 cm tall, and has light to dense hairs across its structure. Its leaf blades are ovate, reaching up to 8 cm in length and 3–6 cm in width, with margins that are either entire or shallowly lobed. Petioles for these leaves grow up to 4.5 cm long. Inflorescences hold clusters of 3 to 8 flowers. The corolla can be white, or carry a purple tinge. After flowering, the plant produces globular berries 5–9 mm in diameter; berry colour is either dull light red or orange-yellow, depending on the subspecies. Seeds are 1.7–2.3 mm long and pale yellow. Compared to Solanum nigrum, aside from difference in fruit colour, S. villosum has moderately sized peduncles. In contrast, S. nigrum typically develops notably longer peduncles relative to the length of its pedicels.
