About Solanum prinophyllum Dunal

Commonly known as forest nightshade, Solanum prinophyllum Dunal is a plant that grows up to 50 centimeters in height. Its leaves measure 5 to 8 centimeters long and 3 to 5 centimeters wide; they are spiky and often tinged with purple. The stems of this plant are also spiky. It produces five-petalled blue or lilac flowers at any time of year, with petals fused at the base. Its fruit is a berry around 15 to 20 millimeters in diameter, borne on a stem 10 to 20 millimeters long. The berry remains green or develops a purple colour. This species grows in moist areas, including sclerophyll forest and disturbed areas within rainforest.
