About Smyrna blomfildia Fabricius, 1781

Smyrna blomfildia, commonly known as Blomfild's beauty, has a wingspan of approximately 75 to 90 millimetres, which is 3.0 to 3.5 inches. Males of this species have primarily red-orange wings, while females have primarily brown wings. The upper side of the forewings has a black apex marked with three white spots. The underside of the hindwings has wavy brown and tan markings along with a small number of submarginal spots. This butterfly species can be found from south Texas and Mexico, through Central America, all the way to Peru. It inhabits tropical forests, at elevations ranging from 0 to 1,200 metres (0 to 3,937 feet) above sea level.
