About Smilax walteri Pursh

Smilax walteri Pursh, commonly called coral greenbrier, red-berried greenbrier, or red-berried bamboo, is a North American plant species that only occurs in the United States. It is native to coastal plains across the south-central, southeastern, and east-central regions of the country, with a range extending from eastern Texas to New Jersey. This is a climbing vine that grows over other vegetation, and it can sometimes reach heights of up to 6 meters (20 feet) above ground. Its flowers are small and yellow-brown, so they are not very noticeable. In contrast, its bright orange or red berries are easy to spot, particularly during the winter.
