Smilax biltmoreana is an herbaceous plant that produces erect stems reaching up to 60 centimeters, or 2 feet, in height. Its leaves range in shape from ovate (egg-shaped) to cordate (heart-shaped), with a waxy coating on the leaf undersides and no hairs on the foliage. This species produces small, greenish flowers, and its mature fruits are dark blue in color.
