About Sisyrinchium angustifolium Mill.

Sisyrinchium angustifolium Mill. is a herbaceous species that grows 15 to 50 centimeters (6 to 20 inches) tall. Its stems are broadly winged, measuring 2 to 4 millimeters (1⁄16 to 3⁄16 inches) wide, and are usually branched. Its leaves are 2 to 6 millimeters (1⁄16 to 1⁄4 inches) wide. The flowers have six blue tepals, each 7 to 10 millimeters (1⁄4 to 3⁄8 inches) long; every tepal is tipped with a sharp point, marked with visible veins, and darkens in color toward a central yellow patch. This species is most commonly found in woodlands, meadows, and sandhill swales. It has intermediate shade tolerance and is adapted to both fine and medium-textured soils. It typically flowers from January to May, with peak flowering occurring in spring, around April.
