This marine species has a confirmed distribution spanning from Rocha, Uruguay, to Cape Horn and the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Its range continues through the Beagle Channel and Magellan Strait, extending north to Chiloé Island, Chile in the Pacific Ocean. Published sources have additionally reported the species' range reaching Santa Catarina, Brazil in the Atlantic Ocean, Paita, Peru in the Pacific Ocean, and Nicaragua. These out-of-range published records have not yet been confirmed.
