About Siphonaria capensis Quoy & Gaimard, 1833

Siphonaria is a genus of air-breathing sea snails belonging to the family Siphonariidae, commonly called false limpets. There are over 100 described species in this genus, though the exact total number of species remains unknown because members of the genus show wide variation in shell morphology. Members of the Siphonaria genus are globally distributed, and occur in most tropical and temperate seas. These snails live in benthic, intertidal zones ranging from temperate to tropical climates. In these regions, Siphonaria makes up a significant component of the local macrobenthic invertebrate fauna.
