About Simosyrphus grandicornis (Macquart, 1842)

Simosyrphus grandicornis has a body length of 10 mm. It has yellow edges along the sides of its thorax, and yellow antennae. This species gets its common name from its stout body shape. The most reliable way to distinguish males from females is by eye placement: females have separated eyes at the top of the head, while males have eyes that touch there. Females also have an abdomen that is slightly wider and rounder than that of males.
