About Silpha laevigata Fabricius, 1775

Ablattaria laevigata (basionym Silpha laevigata Fabricius, 1775) reaches a body length of about 12โ€“18 millimetres (0.47โ€“0.71 in). It has a semielliptical pronotum that is not narrowed. The punctuation on its elytra is dense, with a small number of thicker punctures scattered across the surface. These beetles are predators of terrestrial snails, including Theba pisana, species from the genera Monacha, Xeropicta, and Candidula. They are capable of penetrating snail shells.
