About Silene coronaria (L.) Clairv.

Silene coronaria (L.) Clairv. is a perennial plant that reaches 80 centimetres (31 inches) in height and 45 centimetres (18 inches) in width. It has grey felted leaves, and produces single, bright magenta flowers in succession around July. Although this species is short-lived, it readily self-seeds when growing in favourable locations, and is sometimes grown as a biennial. In cultivation, this species has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. This award has also been granted to its white-flowered cultivar 'Alba'.
