About Silene burchellii Otth ex DC.

Silene burchellii Otth ex DC. is a herbaceous flowering plant that belongs to the family Caryophyllaceae. It was first formally described by Swiss naturalist Carl Adolf Otth in 1824, and it was named in honor of William John Burchell. Burchell documented the species, describing its habitat and growth form in his work Travels in the Interior of Southern Africa. This species is commonly called the gunpowder plant. It is native to southern and eastern Africa, as well as the Arabian Peninsula.
