About Sigapatella novaezelandiae (Lesson, 1831)

This species, known scientifically as Sigapatella novaezelandiae (Lesson, 1831), has an adult shell that ranges in size from 15 mm to 33 mm. Its shell is white or yellowish-white, marked with visible growth lines. The spire of the shell is often a light violet color. The entire shell is covered by a thin, fibrous, yellowish periostracum. The interior of the shell is white, with more or less extensive violet staining or blotching. This marine species is endemic to New Zealand.
