About Setaria parviflora (Poir.) Kerguélen
Setaria parviflora is a grass species with common names including marsh bristlegrass, knotroot bristle-grass, bristly foxtail and yellow bristlegrass. It is native to North America, ranging across Mexico and the United States from California to the East Coast, as well as Central America, the West Indies, and South America. This is a perennial grass that has small, knotty rhizomes. It produces stems that grow between 30 centimeters and well over one meter tall. Its leaf blades reach up to 25 centimeters in length and measure under one centimeter in width, and the leaves have a whitish-green color. The inflorescence is a compact, spikelike panicle that grows up to 8 to 10 centimeters long. Up to 12 yellow or purple bristles surround each spikelet, and these bristles remain on the stalk after seeds drop away. This grass grows in moist habitats, and it can tolerate salty habitats such as salt marshes.
