About Serruria rosea E.Phillips

Scientific name: Serruria rosea E.Phillips. This species is an erect shrub that reaches a height of 0.8–1 m (2 ft 7 in – 3 ft 3 in) tall, and produces flowers from August to October. It bears bisexual flowers, and pollination is carried out by insects. Two months after flowering, its mature fruit detaches from the plant, and ants disperse the seeds by storing them in their nests. Fire kills the above-ground plant, but its seeds are able to survive fire to germinate later. In Afrikaans, this species is called Bruidsbos. It occurs exclusively in the Hottentots Holland Mountains, ranging from the Slanghoek Mountains to Franschhoek, where it grows in sandy soil at altitudes between 300 and 620 m (980–2,030 ft).
