About Serpula himantioides (Fr.) P.Karst.

Serpula himantioides (Fr.) P.Karst. is a species of fungus that causes a type of timber damage known as dry rot. It is a basidiomycete belonging to the order Boletales. This fungus has been recorded on all continents except Antarctica. Recent molecular research shows that S. himantioides forms a species complex that contains multiple distinct cryptic lineages. In terms of habitat, S. himantioides is commonly found growing in wild environments. This differs from the related species S. lacrymans, which is rarely found in the wild and most often occurs on lumber in buildings and construction sites.
