Sericomyia silentis (Harris, 1778) has a wing length ranging from 9.5 to 14 mm. Its pregenital segment is yellow. The legs are yellowish, with the base of the femora being black. Dark yellow side-stripes on tergites 2 through 4 widen toward the margins of the tergites. Refer to the given references for identification. This species occurs in the Palearctic region. Its distribution ranges from Fennoscandia south to the Pyrenees, from Ireland east through Northern and Central Europe (including the Alps), into Russia and the Caucasus, and continues through Siberia, the Russian Far East to Japan.
