About Sericomyia lappona (Linnaeus, 1758)

This species, scientifically named Sericomyia lappona (Linnaeus, 1758), has the following morphological description: Wing length ranges from 9.5 to 14 mm. The knob of the halteres is black. The legs are reddish, with the femorae darkened at their base. The third and fourth tergites each have a narrow whitish-yellow band (the band is less than 1/3 the length of the tergite), and each band has a short median interruption. The scutellum is reddish. This species is distributed across the Palearctic region: from Fennoscandia south to the Pyrenees, from Ireland east through Northern Europe, Central Europe and Southern Europe (including Northern Italy and Yugoslavia) into European Russia, and then through Siberia and the Russian Far East to the Pacific coast (Sakhalin Island).
