Senecio verbascifolius Burm.fil. is a perennial plant that reaches a maximum height of 60 cm, or 24 inches. Its leaves are either oval or heart-shaped, with tiny teeth along their edges. This species produces yellow flowers between September and December; the flowers grow in branched corymbs. It has a calyx-like involucre, with bracts that are thickened towards their base. This species is endemic to the Western Cape of South Africa, where it grows on sheltered, south-facing rocky slopes in the Cape Peninsula and the Hottentots Holland Mountains. It is a habitat specialist with an overall range of 347 km², or 134 square miles.
