About Semnopithecus johnii (J.Fischer, 1829)
The Nilgiri langur, with the scientific name Semnopithecus johnii (J.Fischer, 1829), has distinct body measurements based on sex. Adult males measure 78โ80 cm (31โ31 inches) from head to body, while adult females measure 58โ60 cm (23โ24 inches). Both sexes have tails ranging from 68.5โ96.5 cm (27.0โ38.0 inches) in length. Adult males weigh between 9.1โ14.8 kg (20โ33 lb), and adult females weigh between 10.9โ12 kg (24โ26 lb).
This species is native to the Nilgiri Hills of South India, where it lives at elevations between 300โ2,000 m (980โ6,560 ft) across the Indian states of Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. Confirmed sightings of the Nilgiri langur have been recorded in Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve, Aliyar Forest Reserve, Anamalai Tiger Reserve, Bandipur National Park, Eravikulam National Park, Idamalayar Reserve Forest, Mudumalai National Park, Mukurthi National Park, Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, Nelliampathi, Periyar National Park, Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary, and Silent Valley National Park.
In terms of behaviour and ecology, the exact length of the Nilgiri langur's gestation period is not known, and it is generally assumed to be 200 days.
