About Semiotus ligneus (Linnaeus, 1767)

Semiotus ligneus is a species of click beetle native to Central and South America. Adults reach a total length of 15 to 44 millimetres (0.6 to 1.7 inches), and have a body that is 3.7 to 4.2 times as long as it is wide. Larvae of this species grow to 27 millimetres (1.1 inches) in length. The species closely resembles seed sheaths, a resemblance that provides effective camouflage. S. ligneus is the most commonly collected species within the genus Semiotus, and its closest relative is Semiotus serraticornis.
