About Sedum spathulifolium Hook.
Sedum spathulifolium Hook. is a succulent plant that grows mats of basal rosettes from a rhizome system. Its basal leaves measure 1 to 2 centimeters long, and are sometimes covered in a waxy, powdery-looking exudate. The inflorescence is a short, upright cluster that holds many small flowers, each with five yellow petals. When the plant develops fruit, its five carpels are separate at the apex and joined at the base. In cultivation, this plant is used as ornamental groundcover, growing best in well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. It does not tolerate wet conditions during winter. Many cultivars have been bred for garden use, and two of these โ 'Cape Blanco' and 'Purpureum' โ have earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
