About Searsia glauca (Thunb.) Moffett

Searsia glauca (Thunb.) Moffett can be identified by its characteristic glossy, often slightly blue-green (glaucous) leaves. Its leaves are trifoliate, made up of three obtuse leaflets shaped like obcordate-cuneate. This species is dioecious, meaning male and female flowers grow on separate individual plants. Its fruits grow to a maximum diameter of 5 millimeters, which distinguishes it from the related species Searsia undulata, whose fruits only reach 3 millimeters in diameter. This species grows along the coast of South Africa, and also in certain inland areas. Along the coast, its range extends from Velddrif and Cape Town in the west, eastward into South Africa's Eastern Cape Province. Inland, it can be found in the Little Karoo, around Worcester, Oudtshoorn, and Baviaanskloof, and extends northward into Zimbabwe.
