Scutellaria orientalis L. is a deciduous plant with a woody base. Its stems grow directly from the ground, and it produces dark green, deeply toothed leaves. Its yellow flowers are upright tubes with hooded tops, reaching up to 3 cm in length. At the peak of the summer growing season, these flowers grow very densely clustered together. This species has a USDA hardiness rating of Zone 5, and is capable of growing in the harsh conditions found in alpine tundra.
