About Scutellaria alpina L.
Scutellaria alpina L. is a small rhizomatous perennial plant that grows 10–30 centimetres (3.9–11.8 inches) tall. It has square, prostrate-ascending, branched stems that are woody at the base and covered in hairs. Its leaves grow in opposite pairs, are covered in fine hairs, and are oval in shape with a rounded base. Each leaf is 2–3 cm long, has a short petiole, and fine rounded teeth along its margins. The plant's inflorescence forms a terminal four-sided spike. Its flowers are blue-violet or purple-white, 2.5–3 cm long, and bloom from June to August. This species is native to central and southern Europe, and Russia. It grows best on rocky areas in high calcareous mountains, at elevations between 1,400–2,500 metres (4,600–8,200 feet) above sea level.
