About Scotopteryx bipunctaria (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
Scotopteryx bipunctaria, commonly called the chalk carpet, is a moth species that belongs to the family Geometridae. This species was first officially described by Michael Denis and Ignaz Schiffermüller in 1775. Its range extends from Morocco and Spain, through western and central Europe and Great Britain, to the Ural. In the northern part of its distribution, it reaches as far as the Baltic region, while in the south its range extends through Italy and the Balkan Peninsula to the Black Sea and Caspian Sea. This moth has a wingspan of 26 to 32 millimeters. Adult moths are active from June to August, with one new generation produced each year. The larvae feed on a variety of low-growing plant species, including species from the genera Vicia, Lotus, Hippocrepis, and Teucrium. Larvae are present starting in September, they overwinter during the cold season, and pupate the following year in May or June.
