The windowpane flounder, whose scientific name is Scophthalmus aquosus (Mitchill, 1815), is a fish species that belongs to the family Scophthalmidae. This species is widely distributed in the western Atlantic Ocean, ranging from the Gulf of St. Lawrence in Canada to Florida in the United States, where it inhabits waters between 5 and 73 meters deep. It is an important commercial fish species. Fully grown windowpane flounder can reach a maximum length of 45.7 cm, and the species has a maximum recorded lifespan of 7 years.
