About Scoparia exilis Knaggs, 1867

Eudonia exilis, also known under the scientific name Scoparia exilis Knaggs, 1867, is a moth species belonging to the family Crambidae. This species was first described by Henry Guard Knaggs in 1867, and it is found exclusively in New Zealand. Males of this species have a wingspan ranging from 18 to 20 millimetres, while females have a wingspan of approximately 16 millimetres. The forewings are pale greyish ochreous in color, and covered in an irrorated, or sprinkled, pattern of white. The first transverse line on the forewings is whitish, with a dark margin along its posterior side. The second transverse line on the forewings is white, with a blackish margin along its anterior side. The hindwings are pale whitish grey in color, with a slight ochreous tint. Both the postmedian line and the hindmargin of the hindwings are a darker shade than the main wing surface. Adult Eudonia exilis have been recorded in flight during the months of October, December, and April.
