About Scolopendra japonica L.Koch, 1878
Scolopendra japonica L.Koch, 1878 is known to have two distinct colour morphs. The only notable morphological variation between these morphs lies in leg colour: legs range from yellow-brown to red, with tips that are almost greenish. S. japonica typically has a body colour between dark greenish and brown, with black-tipped fangs. Its head and first tergite are dark reddish-green. This centipede species prefers shaded woodland areas and greenspaces, found in both flat and mountainous terrain. Like most centipedes, S. japonica is nocturnal. Its main prey consists of insects and arachnids, including cockroaches, spiders, and crickets. During daytime hours, individuals usually hide under leaf litter, rocks, or fallen logs, but they may sometimes rest on the tips of tree branches. S. japonica can occur in residential areas, and occasionally enters human homes.
