About Scolopendra hardwickei Newport, 1844

Scolopendra hardwickei can grow up to 16 centimetres, or 6.3 inches, in length. Its antennae are made up of 17 or 18 total segments, with the first 6 to 7 of these segments having a shiny texture. This is a pigmented centipede species with unusually bright, contrasting color patterns: its body segments alternate between dark orange and deep black, and its legs are dark orange. The head and full antennae are also dark orange, though the first six segments of the antennae are typically a lighter shade. This species is common across the southern part of the Indian peninsula, and it is only rarely found on the islands of Sumatra and Nicobar.
