About Scolopendra galapagoensis Bollman, 1889

Scolopendra galapagoensis, commonly called the Galápagos centipede and Darwin's goliath centipede, is a species of very large centipede belonging to the family Scolopendridae. The Galápagos Islands host twelve total centipede species, and this is the only member of the genus Scolopendra found there. This centipede also occurs on mainland South America in Ecuador and Peru, as well as on Cocos Island in Costa Rica. Its scientific name is Scolopendra galapagoensis, first described by Bollman in 1889.
