About Scolopendra angulata Newport, 1844

Scolopendra angulata Newport, 1844 is a species of centipede. It is most commonly found in Barbados, and also occurs in Venezuela, as well as neighboring South American and Caribbean countries including Ecuador and Colombia. This species is divided into three recognized subspecies: Scolopendra angulata angulata (Newport, 1844), Scolopendra angulata explorans (Chamberlin, 1914), and Scolopendra angulata moojeni (Bücherl, 1943). Some taxonomic sources do not recognize the third subspecies, S. a. moojeni. S. a. explorans was originally described as a full species, Scolopendra explorans, by Chamberlin, and was first proposed as a subspecies of S. angulata by Bücherl in 1942.
