Sclerophrys poweri is a toad species that belongs to the Bufonidae family. Its distribution covers extreme southern Angola, northern Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, and extends southward into central South Africa. The specific epithet "poweri" honors John Hyacinth Power, an Irish-born director of the McGregor Museum in Kimberley, South Africa, who collected amphibians, reptiles, and plants. This species lives in open savanna, wooded savanna, thornveldt, river valleys, and agricultural areas. It breeds in temporary water bodies including vleis, marshes, dams, and pans, and sometimes uses artificial pools. Sclerophrys poweri is a common, often abundant species, it faces no significant threats, and occurs in many protected areas.
