About Sclerophrys pardalis (Hewitt, 1935)

The eastern leopard toad, scientifically named Sclerophrys pardalis, is a toad species belonging to the family Bufonidae. This species is endemic to South Africa. Its natural habitats include temperate shrubland, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, subtropical or tropical dry lowland grassland, rural gardens, and urban areas. Habitat loss poses a threat to this species. It is native to South Africa, and is primarily recorded from the Eastern Cape Province, extending east to Umtata in the former Transkei, with a small number of additional records from the Western Cape Province. It occurs mostly relatively close to the coast, but its range extends inland to Grahamstown, Kei Road, Stutterheim, and the Amatola Mountains. It generally lives at elevations below 1,000 m above sea level, though its range reaches up to 1,500 m above sea level in some locations.
