Scleromitrion diffusum (Willd.) R.J.Wang, which has the synonym Hedyotis diffusa, is a species of flowering plant belonging to the family Rubiaceae. This herb is used in traditional Chinese medicine, where it bears the Chinese name 白花蛇舌草, pinyin báihuā shéshécǎo, which literally translates to 'white flower snake-tongue grass'; it is sometimes abbreviated to 蛇舌草 shéshécǎo. It is sometimes blended with Siraitia grosvenorii and Scutellaria barbata to prepare hot beverages, including luóhànguǒ shéshécǎo jīng (written as 罗汉果蛇舌草精 in simplified Chinese and 羅漢果蛇舌草精 in traditional Chinese, also called lohoguo of guongsei), as well as luohanguo pearl and sheshecao beverage. Wild Scleromitrion diffusum is native to tropical and subtropical Asia.
