About Schoenoplectiella mucronata (L.) J.Jung & H.K.Choi
Schoenoplectiella mucronata (L.) J.Jung & H.K.Choi grows in moist and wet terrestrial habitats, as well as in shallow water. It is a perennial herb that grows from a short, hard rhizome. Its erect, three-angled stems grow in dense clumps and can reach one metre in height. Its leaves take the form of sheaths wrapped around the base of the stem, and they generally do not have blades. Its inflorescence is a headlike cluster of cone-shaped spikelets, accompanied by an angled, stiff bract that may appear to be a continuation of the stem. It grows as a weed of rice fields in California. This species is native to Eurasia, Africa, and Australia.
