About Schizaea bifida Willd.

Schizaea bifida Willd. is commonly known as the forked comb fern. It is a fairly common fern native to eastern and southern Australia, and can also be found in New Zealand and New Caledonia. In the Australian state of New South Wales, it occurs near the coast in heathland and eucalyptus woodland. It is a low-growing plant, reaching between 10 and 35 centimetres in height. Its generic name Schizaea comes from Greek, and means "to cleave or split". Its specific epithet bifida means split in two. This species was first published and described in scientific literature in 1802 by German botanist Carl Ludwig Willdenow.
