About Schiffornis virescens (Lafresnaye, 1838)
The greenish schiffornis, Schiffornis virescens (Lafresnaye, 1838), measures approximately 15.5 cm (6.1 in) in length and weighs between 21.5 and 28.5 g (0.76 to 1.0 oz). Males and females have identical plumage. Adult individuals have an indistinct pale ring around the eye, with the rest of the face being greenish brown. Their upperparts are greenish brown, while their wings and tail are rufescent. Their underparts are a lighter shade of greenish brown than their upperparts. They have a dark brown iris, an olive-grayish bill, and olive-grayish legs.
Greenish schiffornis is distributed in southeastern Brazil, south of a line that runs roughly from southeastern Bahia southwest to northern Rio Grande do Sul. Its range extends further south through eastern Paraguay into the Misiones and Corrientes provinces of northeastern Argentina. This species lives in humid primary forest, mature secondary forest, and gallery forest, and it prefers the understory to mid-story levels of these forests. It occurs at elevations ranging from sea level to about 1,200 m (3,900 ft).
