Scabiosa japonica Miq. is a flowering plant species that belongs to the pincushion flower genus Scabiosa in the Caprifoliaceae plant family. It is native to central and southern Japan, and has been introduced to the Dominican Republic. This plant is a biennial or short-lived perennial that grows to between 10 and 50 cm, or 4 and 20 inches, in height. The Royal Horticultural Society recognizes it as a good plant for attracting pollinators. Several cultivars are available commercially, including 'Blue Note', 'Blue Star', 'Blue Diamonds', 'Ritz Blue', and 'Ritz Rose'.
