About Scabiosa columbaria L.

Scabiosa columbaria L., commonly known as small scabious or dwarf pincushion flower, is a widespread flowering plant species belonging to the genus Scabiosa. It is native to Europe, Africa, and western Asia, ranging from Sweden to Angola. When grown in gardens, it is a short-lived deciduous perennial. In its wild European habitat, it prefers growing in calcareous grasslands. This plant reaches a mature size of 1 metre (3.3 feet) in height and 0.5 metres (1.6 feet) in width. It produces simple branched grey-green leaves, and pale lavender or blue multi-petalled flowers that bloom from summer through autumn.
