Saxidomus purpurata, commonly called the purple butter clam, is a species of large edible saltwater clams. It is a marine bivalve mollusk that belongs to Veneridae, the Venus clam family. This species occurs in the northwest Pacific Ocean near China and Japan, at depths between 0 and 20 metres. In Japan, this clam is known by the local names uchimurasaki or ō-asari, and it is commonly prepared by grilling for food.
