About Sawadaea bicornis (Wallr.) Homma

This fungus, Sawadaea bicornis, produces thin, white, irregularly shaped patches on the leaves of its host plants. It infects numerous species within the maple genus Acer, specifically including Acer macrophyllum, A. campestre, A. pseudoplatanus, A. negundo, A. grandidentatum, A. tataricum, A. circinatum, A. saccharinum, and A. platanoides. Some of these same Acer species can also be infected by the related fungus Sawadaea tulasnei, so care is required to correctly distinguish between the two species.
