About Sanicula canadensis L.
Sanicula canadensis, commonly known as Canadian blacksnakeroot, is a North American native plant that belongs to the Apiaceae family. It can be a biennial or perennial species, and it spreads primarily through seeds. It grows to a height between 1 and 4.5 feet, and it is typically found in mesic deciduous woodlands. Its flowers are whitish-green, have sepals that are longer than their petals, and bloom in late spring or early summer, with a blooming period that lasts approximately three weeks. The flower heads are green and bur-like. Each bur-like fruit splits to release 2 seeds. This species ranges across most of the eastern United States, excluding Maine, extends north into the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario, and reaches west into the U.S. states of Texas and Wyoming.
