About Sambucus javanica Reinw. ex Blume
Sambucus javanica, commonly called the Chinese elder, is an elderberry species belonging to the plant family Viburnaceae. It is native to subtropical and tropical Asia, specifically found in Bhutan, Burma, Cambodia, most of China outside the northern region, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Sabah (Malaysia), the Philippines, southern Thailand, and Vietnam. This species grows as a perennial herb or small shrub that reaches 1 to 2 meters (3 feet 3 inches to 6 feet 7 inches) in height. Various parts of this plant are used as analgesics, blood purifiers, bowel stimulants, and bladder stimulants; it is also used to make poison. The plant is additionally believed to help treat numbness, rheumatism, spasms, swelling, and trauma, and to support general bone health and circulatory health.
