About Saltugilia caruifolia (Abrams) L.A.Johnson
Saltugilia caruifolia, also known by the scientific synonym Gilia caruifolia, is a flowering plant species in the phlox family. Its common names are carawayleaf gilia and caraway-leaved woodland-gilia. This species is native to the Peninsular Ranges, which cover southern California and northern Baja California, where it grows in local habitat types including chaparral. This herb grows a thin stem that ranges from 12 centimeters to around one meter in length. The leaves at the base of the plant reach up to 8 centimeters long, and are divided into many finely subdivided lobes. The top of the stem branches into a gland-dotted inflorescence. The plant produces flowers with lavender lobes, which are dotted with darker purple near their bases.
