About Salaria pavo (Risso, 1810)

Salaria pavo, commonly known as the peacock blenny, is a species of combtooth blenny. It is found along the eastern Atlantic coast from France to Morocco, and also occurs in the Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, and eastern Adriatic Sea. This species has colonized the northern Red Sea via anti-Lessepsian migration through the Suez Canal. The peacock blenny grows to a maximum total length of 13 centimeters (5.1 inches). This species has distinctive reproductive behavior. Bourgeois males typically construct and guard nests, while sneaker males mimic female behavior to approach nests and fertilize eggs.
